Concrete Steps to Raise Awareness for More Intercultural Church Cooperation in Switzerland

Around 50 persons from educational institutions, ministries and church associations from western and German-speaking Switzerland met on July 1, 2015 at a round table in Bern to reflect on the future work of the SEA-AG interkulturell task force and to develop project ideas. Led by Anna Degen and Matthias Ettlin, the table groups developed promising project drafts that must now be further developed and implemented.

Finally, six different proposals were put together by the end of the afternoon. Here is a selection of the topics below:

  • Decentralized training for Christians who would like to support immigrants.
  • “Walking together” plans to connect a Swiss pastor with an international leader in the SEA section and integrate them into the section.
  • Platform for church partnerships: A Swiss church should be connected with a migrants’ church.
  • “Chronological Bible Study” is a multilingual tool that can be used in the multicultural Swiss environment and that is meant to connect Christians of different languages.

There is a person responsible for each project who will remain in contact with the “interkulturell” leadership team and report on developments.

The persons present are jointly convinced that all of the churches in Switzerland require raised awareness for the topic of intercultural cooperation on the one hand, and on the other for the integration of immigrants in internationally or nationally oriented churches and congregations.
